I escaped to New Zealand

Despite my blog being about my time in Chile I have recently escaped away to my home lands of New Zealand to surprise my little sister for her 21st birthday party and get my dosage of kiwiana become I become to Chilean after recently receiving my permanent visa.

I am from a small city, well to most it is a town, called Lower Hutt, or fondly known as the Hutt, which is part of the greater Wellington Region. About 20 mins from the Capital, Wellington, by train the Hutt is surrounded by beautiful hills and some stunning beaches. Here I have spent most of my days hanging out with family and catching up with friends, going shopping and running and the hills that surround my town.

The other day with my mum we went on a spur of the moment trip to visit her aunt and cousin down in Christchurch. Christchurch is located in the South Island of New Zealand, known as the garden city, is it currently still be re-constructed from their deadly earthquake in 2011. With my aunt and my mum we spent most of our time lunching, walking round the beautiful parks that the city has, and trying to keep warm because boy is it cold down there at the moment!

This weekend is Queens Birthday weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday) here in New Zealand. It is a holiday to celebrate the monarchy which England has over us and the celebrations are mostly formal with the honours list being announced. I plan to spend it summiting mountains close to home, catching up with friends and making the most of my days here in New Zealand before I return to the locura of Chile
