Trip to Laguna Verde

A month or so ago, R and I escaped to the coast for a weekend away from the chaos of the city. We booked an apartment for the Saturday night in Concon, just outside of Viña del Mar.

Here is the view from the apartment:

We spent the day hanging out in Valparaiso and Viña and visiting our favourite burrito place in Reñaca.

On Sunday, we decided to explore part of the region that we had never visited, more especially, the small beach (playa chica) in Laguna Verde, not to be confused with the big beach (playa grande) in Laguna Verde.

Getting there in public transport is a bit of a mission in terms of travel time but totally worth it. As we are in the middle of winter we had the beach to ourselves upon arrival, though we did not brave the cold water, it was lovely to just sit back, relax and have a small picnic. I understand this beach is popular in summer so if you want to go, now is the time!

Getting there (in public transport):
1) From that Bus terminal, you need to catch the 515 green micro for 20 stops till the “Baden Powel Oriente” micro stop.
2) Then you need to walk a minute to “Baden Powel Poniente” micro stop
3) From the Baden Powel Poniente micro stop you can catch the 520 green micro all the way to “Calle Uno – Calle Dos / Poniente”
4) You will need to walk about 10 mins to get down to the beach.

Getting there (driving):
If you are diving your best bet in terms of routes in plugging it into waze or google maps, depending on the time of day you may be best to cut through the hills or take the costal route. Driving is 100% faster with the total travel time being under and hour, approx. 45 minutes.

This in total according to google maps takes about an hour and a half, but for us, it was just over an hour. If you need so help be sure to ask the micro divers, they are more than happy to help and point you in the right direction.

In the map here it shows a bajada, where to go down, to get to the beach but you can access it from both sides. You also can’t go down and around like in the map, we were able to cut through from the last Micro stop and the security guard directed us in the right direction.
When you get there, this is what you will get:

Definitely worth it.
