Parque Nacional Vicente Pérez Rosales
A few months ago I made a spur of the moment decision to visit Puerto Varas again because when I went in 2015 with my sister we didn’t have enough time to explore all the wonders the town and its surroundings have to offer. The town is also known as “the city of roses” (la cuidad de las rosas) and is located in the region of Los Lagos in the South of Chile.
With many past and present connections to Germany, the town is famous for its German traditions with its picturesque houses on the lake front of Llanquihue Lake which is the second largest late in Chile.
During my time in Puerta Varas I met up with an old friend who I met while traveling with my sister. And she was kind enough, with two other of her friends, to give me a more extensive tour of the soundings of the city and a night out!
One for the places we went was Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park and is about 64km from Puerto Varas along Ruta CH-225. The park has a wide range of Walks ranging from a mere 0,6km to excursions of 10 hours to 5 days (on horseback). The park has an incredible variety of flora and fauna as well as around 80 different types of birds.
The park has the following entrance fees (in Chilean pesos):
- Chilean adult: $2,000
- Chilean minor: $1,000
- Older adult: $1,000
- Disabled adult: $1,000
- Foreign adult: $4,000
